Washington Facts
Washington is the 18th largest state in the United States and the 42nd to be admitted to the Union. Washington was admitted to the Union on November 11th, 1889. Washington is situated in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States of America. The state is named after George Washington, the first President of the United States of America. Washington is the only state named after a president.
Washington shares its northern border with the Canadian province of British Columbia. Washington also borders Oregon to the south, Idaho to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Washington is in the region known as the Pacific Northwest which also includes British Columbia in Canada and part of Alaska.
Washington's nickname is the Evergreen State.
