Massachusetts is the 44th largest state in the United States and the 6th to be admitted to the Union. Massachusetts was admitted to the Union on February 6th, 1788.

Massachusetts is situated in the New England region of the northeastern United States of America and the capital city of Massachusetts is Boston.

Massachusetts borders New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and the Atlantic Ocean.

Massachusetts has an extensive coastline which makes it ideal for Whale Watching. Other recreations include sailing, yachting and hiking. In addition there are many trails which are suitable for long distance hiking, such as the Appalachian Trail, Midstate Trail and the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail.

Massachusetts has a humid continental style climate, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters making Massachusetts a popular cross country skiing destination.
