Ohio is the 34th largest state in the United States and the 17th to be admitted to the Union. Ohio was admitted to the Union on March 1st, 1803 and declared retroactively on August 7, 1953. Ohio is a Midwestern state of the United States of America and is part of the Great Lakes Region.

Ohio is bounded by the Ohio River, but the river itself belongs mostly to Kentucky and West Virginia. Ohio is also bounded by Pennsylvania to the east, Michigan to the northwest, Ontario to the north, Indiana to the west, Kentucky on the south and West Virginia on the southeast.

Ohio's nickname is the Buckeye State.
