North Dakota is the 19th largest state in the United States and the 39th to be admitted to the Union. North Dakota was admitted to the Union on November 2nd, 1889. North Dakota is situated in both the Midwestern and Western regions of the United States of America. It is the northernmost of the Great Plains states. During the 19th Century, North Dakota was considered part of the Wild West.
North Dakota is named after the Dakota tribe of Native Americans. North Dakota is bounded on the north by the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, on the west by Montana, on the south by South Dakota and on the east by Minnesota.
North Carolina's nickname is the Peace Garden State.
