Mississippi Facts

Mississippi is the 32nd largest state in the United States and the 20th to be admitted to the Union. Mississippi was admitted to the Union on December 10th, 1817. Mississippi is considered as part of the Deep South.

The state takes its name from the Mississippi River which flows along the western boundary. Mississippi is bordered on the north by the state of Tennessee, on the east by Alabama, on the south by Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico, and on the west by Louisiana and Arkansas.

Mississippi has a warm humid subtropical climate with long summers and short, mild winters.

Mississippi's nickname is the Magnolia State.
