Maryland is the 42nd largest state in the United States and the 7th to be admitted to the Union. Maryland was admitted to the Union on April 28th, 1788. Maryland is located on the Atlantic Coast.

Maryland is bounded on the north by Pennsylvania, on the west by West Virginia, on the east by Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean, and on the south, across the Potomac River, by West Virginia and Virginia.

Maryland's nickname is the Old Line State.
