Kansas is the 15th largest state in the United States and the 34th to be admitted to the Union. Kansas was admitted to the Union on January 29th, 1861. Kansas is situated in the midwestern region of the United States of America.

Kansas is bordered by Nebraska on the North, Missouri on the east, Oklahoma on the south and Colorado on the west.

Two thirds of Kansas lies in the great central plain of the United States and has a generally flat surface. The eastern third is more hilly and forested.

The capital city of Kansas is Topeka and Kansas's nickname is the Sunflower State.
