Iowa is the 26th largest state in the United States and the 29th to be admitted to the Union. Iowa was admitted to the Union on December 28th, 1846. Iowa is situated in the midwestern region of the United States of America.

The Mississippi River forms the eastern boundary of the state and along the west is the Missouri River. Iowa has several natural lakes and some man-made lakes. Iowa's landscape consists of gently rolling plains.

Iowa has a humid continental climate throughout the state. Winters are brisk and snowfall is common. Iowa's capital city is Des Moines.

Iowa's nickname is the Hawkeye State.
