Alabama

Alabama is the 30th state in the United States and the 22nd to be admitted to the Union. Alabama was admitted to the Union on December 14th, 1819. Alabama was seceded from the Union in 1861 to to become part of the Confederate States of America. Following the Civil War, Alabama was readmitted to the union in 1868.

Alabama is situated in the southern region of the United States of America and is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south and Mississippi to the west.

Alabama is nicknamed the Yellowhammer State, Heart of Dixie. The capital city of Alabama is Montgomery and the largest city is Birmingham.
